The
9-1-1
Emergency System makes an important difference in our community every day.
When used properly ,
9-1-1
can save precious seconds that can save lives.
When calling
9-1-1
please be sure and follow these simple instructions:
Remain calm , speak slowly and clearly. You
will be asked your
location
first , and then the nature of the
emergency.
You will then be asked
your name and a phone number in the case of a disconnection.
Answer all questions as
accurately as possible.
Do not hang up unless
instructed to do so.
When you are in an
emergency situation , some questions you may be asked may seem unimportant to
you. You must remember that all information asked of you is vital to
respond to each emergency. There are no two emergencies that are the same.
When not to Call
9-1-1
People often get confused
about when to call 911. Below are some examples of when not to call:
You are having trouble helping your child
with his/her homework
Your cable television went
out and the cable company won't answer the phone.
Just to see what happens. (A Police
Officer will come to your door!)
If someone stole the hub cap off your car.
There is a squirrel in your bird feeder.
Never call 911 as a joke.
When the Emergency Communication Officer has to take the time to
talk to people
who don't have a real emergency, other people who do need help right
away
might have to wait.
Any
time you do call
911
, a Police Officer will show up at your location.
When to
call 9-1-1
When someone is in immediate danger
When someone needs an ambulance
If there is a crime occurring
When something is on fire
If there has been a car accident
