The
Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating all Adult
and Juvenile related offenses. Each case received by this unit is
reviewed by a supervisor, then either assigned to a detective for
follow-up, held for future reference, or referred to another
agency or jurisdiction. All cases are examined on the basis of
solvability and followed through to their conclusion. The Unit develops
criminal intelligence and promulgates same throughout the Police
Department and other Municipal, County, State and Federal Law
Enforcement agencies.
The Detectives have individual and joint specialized training in
numerous areas and are responsible for investigating any and all crimes
or occurrences to include various investigative duties criminal and
non-criminal in nature with some of the duties as follows:

Matters, Child Passenger Seat Installations, Death Notifications, Liquor License Investigations,
Computer Crimes, Child & Elderly Abuse and Affidavit / Search Warrant
Applications.
The Criminal Investigations Unit has its own unique area of
responsibility. These areas all overlap to some degree, which
allows all the Detectives to work as one or collectively when a
particular investigation warrants the manpower and expertise of
individuals from within the Unit.
Most of the Detectives have had the privilege to be assigned to the
Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit (Narcotics
Task Force). During this time the detectives conducted numerous narcotic
investigations within various jurisdictions which included writing
affidavits and search warrants, tactical and strategic planning for the
execution of search warrants.
Residents are
urged to call the confidential tip line when they would like to
provide investigative information to the criminal investigations
unit that may be able to assist with or solve a crime within this
jurisdiction. The tip line is for use after normal work hours and
weekends. The tip line allows for the caller to remain anonymous.
The Unit would encourage callers to provide a return contact number
so that a return call can be made back to the caller for additional
information however it is not required.

FIREARMS APPLICATIONS
Firearms applications can only be handled by the Detectives
Bureau. Applicants must call for an appointment. Applicant must
come in person. Applicant is not to sign any
documents until instructed by and in front of a Detective. For
